The other day, I visited a fancy cooking store in the mall, one of those places that tries to be Williams-Sonoma but doesn't quite ascend to that height.
They were selling a Cuisinart chopper/grinder for $14.99. It looked like it would do fine in chopping up my garlic, which I never really quite chopped finely enough for my liking. I figured it would be perfect automation and would improve my situation in the kitchen significantly.
So I bought it, took it home and eagerly set it to work.
Unfortunately, there were a couple of problems.
First, cleaning it was more work than chopping the garlic had been. It did a fine job of pulverizing the garlic but getting it out of the bowl, even with the included small spatula, was difficult, and most of it wound up sticking to the bowl until I washed it.
Second, my wok and recipes didn't really seem to like the pulverized garlic as much as my chopped garlic.
Sadly, then, I have gone back to chopping garlic manually. Thanks to the fancy knives my mother bought me for Christmas, it's not that bad and is easier than cleaning the automated garlic chopper.
What a disappointment for lovers of automation, such as myself!
