Has digital triumphed, or is there still room for the old-fashioned film camera?

Digital cameras make photography cheaper, which saves literally millions of pictures that would have never otherwise been taken. It's certainly helped me enjoy photography much more, because even when I'm broke, I can take pictures.
When I was growing up, I had to work for hours just to earn enough money to get a roll of movie film and developing. Now video tapes and memory chips are too cheap to even bother budgeting.
A phenomenal change!
But I understand the sentimental feelings people have about the good old days when things were more mechanical than electronic and there was the solid clunk of the shutter to remind us of an intimate connection between you and the film.
But it's just too expensive to really relax and have fun with picturetaking, like you can today.
